Each week we have 2 or 3 days of current events. We have been watching “Today in 2 minutes” which features late breaking news stories of the day. The other 2 days we watch “Today in History” which shows clips of historical events that happened on that particular day in time. The students use their writing skills and tell who, did what, where, when, and why about the event or article. This short summary is added to their Social Studies notebook that we will be putting together all year long. Their Social Studies notebooks are their toolbox of learning in our classroom. Any time your student would like to help his/her grade by doing a special project or an extra assignment please let me know so that we can come up with an appropriate subject that can enhance your child’s learning and sharing this information with the classroom. dann.frank@cumbyisd.net

29 07 2009For the 4th Six Weeks I have assigned both the 5th & 6th grades Social Studies projects that are due Friday, February 25th. This will count as a six weeks test grade which averages in at about 25 to 30% of your child’s grade for the six weeks. This goes along with how the rest of our school especially Jr. High and High School are calculating their grades. The elementary school has adopted this same policy. You should have received a letter with the Tic Tac Toe options for this Social Studies project from your student last week. The 5th graders are doing projects over the Civil War as we are starting to study this part of American history next week. The 6th graders are doing projects over World War II and Russia. If you have any questions are coments please write me a note, email me at dann.frank@cumbyisd.net or phone me at 903-994-2260 ext. 2.
